HARRISBURG, Aug. 26 – State Rep. Leslie Acosta, D-Phila., has been appointed Democratic chairwoman of the House Appropriations Committee’s Education Subcommittee.
“Recent budget cuts have forced our schools into laying off teachers, cutting academic programs and slashing extracurricular activities,” Acosta said. “Our students cannot afford to be shortchanged any longer. I thank House leadership for the opportunity to serve in such a critical position, and I am eager to work with my colleagues to help secure necessary funding so our children can succeed.”
The powerful House Appropriations Committee supervises the state budget process and forms recommendations for fiscal-related matters facing the legislature.
State Rep. Joe Markosek, minority chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, pointed out Acosta’s dedication to fighting for public education funding and related issues.
“Representative Acosta has an unwavering commitment to ensuring all Pennsylvania children receive a quality education,” said Markosek, D-Allegheny. “I appreciate all the hard work she has done for the Appropriations Committee, and I look forward to continuing to work with her in her new role.”
Acosta was appointed to the House Appropriations Committee earlier this year.
