The pedestrian struck and killed on Roosevelt Boulevard has been identified as John Francis, 24, of the 4400 block of Longshore Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia, police said.
He was struck by a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox traveling north on the Boulevard near Welsh Road in the inner lanes, police said.
When he was hit, Francis was attempting to cross the Boulevard from the grassy median, a few hundred feet from the intersection, they said.
The driver of the car that hit him was a 41-year-old woman who remained at the scene, police said. She was not charged.
Francis was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Boulevard has been scene of other fatal accidents in recent months. In August, an off-duty police officer who was riding a motorcycle was fatally injured in a hit-and-run crash near Devereaux Avenue.
Earlier that month, a man and a woman were killed in a rollover crash on the roadway. The victims were ejected from the vehicle at Adams and Whitaker Avenues after it hit a sign at Adams and then a utility box with a concrete base.
In July, a mother and her three young sons were struck on the Boulevard by drag racers.
The woman was crossing the middle of the 12-lane roadway with her children.
More than 20 pedestrians have been killed on the Boulevard in the last five years, data show.
